When and where is the hackathon?
March 22-23 2018, at IMPACT LABS, WeWork Hazerem, HaPelech 7 Tel Aviv
What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is a competitive event in which teams of developers work intensively for 24 hours on their idea to display a pitch, demo or a mock up.
Does it cost me money?
Participation is free of charge.
What will I eat? [kosher, vegan, GF, etc]
We will provide kosher food and beverages throughout the day and night. There will be vegan options. If you have any other dietary limitations, please mention that in your application.
Where will I sleep?
We will provide a sleeping area with mattresses and bean bags to relax and get some shut-eye. We recommend bringing anything that would make you feel comfortable - from blankets to onesies.
What should I bring?
For tech requirements see below. Otherwise we got your back. Bring anything that might help you be more productive or comfortable.
Can I join without a team?
You can, and we can help you find a team. However, we do prefer already formed teams when screening the candidates.
Do I have to have an idea in order to register?
You don't, but we do give preference to teams that have an idea that we like.
Do I have to be over 18 to participate?
What is the limit on team size?
Can I bring my own sensors / equipment?
Can I have team members who aren't developers? (e.g. graphic designer)
How does the competition work?
You will work in teams throughout Thursday until Friday morning. On Friday there will be a semifinal in which 6 teams will qualify for the final. In the finals a panel of judges will pick the best 3 entries to win prizes.
What is the judging criteria?
Mainly based on mobile camera
Will there be a market for the solution?
The more real time the better
Arguments which are based on existing research and solutions
How does this entry give us a new point of view of the way we think about cameras?
Gut feeling: 10%
Any feeling that doesn’t categorize with other criteria
Can I work on a project other than the proposed scenarios?
Yes, as long as it's relevant to the main challenge description. If in doubt, ask us.
We're a team or a company that already has an existing product. Can we compete with it?
The hackathon is meant for newly developed ideas and code only. If you still want to take part, contact us and we'll work something out.
I'm not sure 24 hours are enough. Can I use an existing starting point?
Obviously, the availability of using a pre-trained existing neural network for your Hackathon project depends on the idea which you wish to implement. However, from past Hackathons, we can confidently say that for a lot of novel projects, good starting points may be found online.
